Africa! South Africa!
The grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence.The grass is greenest where it is watered. African leaders – business and political – need to make different choices. Better decisions. Execute. Act ethically. Make Sacrifices.
Voters. Citizens. We need to love. Trust. And care for ourselves and legacies more. Choose better leaders. Not just those that are ‘there’ /prominent. “One (wo)man cannot do right in one department of life whilst s/he is occupied in doing wrong in any other department. Life is one indivisible whole”. What a person does in their personal life, they do in their public one.
Businesses in Africa need to understand and interpret investments and profits in socially conscious ways. Cannot be business as per the West, if we want a vibrant and growing middle class to balance out the aging and dwindling markets of the West.
Short term Sacrifices for long term gains. As long as we think only for today, we will never invest in Africa so that development and prosperity is on par with the West.
No miracles. Niall Ferguson, historian, argues that the Western civilization’s rise to global dominance is due to competition, science, the rule of law, modern medicine, consumerism, and the work ethic.
